He-Man Dual Controls

Genuine He-Man pedals, supplied and fitted by an agent authorised since 1989. Every set carries the He-Man lifetime warranty, not the 12 months you'd get from a non-approved fitter.

Mobile Dual Control Fitting

We come to you, anywhere across West London. A driveway helps but is not essential: we need somewhere safe to work with room to open both front doors. No space at all? Our Chelmsford workshop takes bookings too.

An authorised He-Man agent since 1989

Howes Controls has been a He-Man approved agent from the very start, and not every fitter is. Approved agents are the only installers He-Man certify to carry their name, which is why a set fitted here comes with He-Man's lifetime warranty rather than the 12-month cover you'd get from an unapproved fitter.

Why Howes Controls

Trusted with dual controls since 1989

37 Years

as He-Man's authorised agent, not a weekend course but a lifetime trade

  • Driving instructors
  • Learner drivers & hire cars
  • Motability & adapted vehicles

Howes Controls has been a dual controls specialist since 1989, trusted by driving instructors, learners and Motability customers to supply and fit controls that actually work when it matters, not just on the day they're fitted, but every lesson, every hire and every test after that. We were authorised by He-Man from the very beginning, which means every set we fit carries their full lifetime warranty, checked and signed off by a technician who has been doing this for decades.

Who we fit for

Most of our West London work falls into three groups: driving instructors adding a second or third car to their fleet, learners hiring a car ahead of a test, and drivers who need adapted controls fitted through the Motability scheme. The job is the same each time: a brake and clutch pedal that respond instantly, positioned correctly for that specific vehicle, and tested before we hand the keys back.

What "dual controls" actually means

A He-Man dual control kit duplicates the brake pedal, and the clutch on a manual car, onto the passenger side, giving an instructor or supervising driver the same stopping power as the person behind the wheel. On an automatic, it's a single extra brake pedal, since there's no clutch to duplicate. Every kit is designed to be fitted and removed without leaving a permanent mark on the vehicle, which matters if the car is leased, about to be sold, or only needs controls for a short hire.

Coming to you, or coming to us

We drive out to Chelsea, Hammersmith and the rest of West London with everything we need in the van. A driveway is ideal, but it is not essential: what we actually need is somewhere safe and legal to work with room to open both front doors, which a resident's bay or a quiet side street usually gives us. If there is nothing workable at your address, our Chelmsford unit takes bookings at a discounted rate.

Common Questions

Before you book, here's what people usually ask.

Not in your own car. GOV.UK is explicit that a car you own does not need dual controls for the practical test. A car you hire for the test does need them, and so does a car used for the ADI part 2 and part 3 tests. If you are teaching learners professionally, dual controls are what make the car usable for lessons in the first place.

A competent mechanic can physically fit a set. What changes is the cover: He-Man's extended lifetime guarantee applies only when the controls are fitted by He-Man or one of their approved agents. Fitted by anyone else, you are left with the standard one-year parts warranty. We have been an approved agent since 1989.

Not every car. He-Man builds model-specific systems rather than a universal kit, so availability depends on your exact make and model, and on the space and pedal layout in the footwell. Tell us the car when you enquire and we will confirm before you commit to anything.

Yes. Removal is a routine job, and it is a common one when a lease car goes back or a car is sold. Ask us about it when you book and we will tell you exactly what is involved on your vehicle.

It depends on the vehicle. We book enough time to fit the controls properly and test the brake, and the clutch on a manual, before we hand the car back, rather than rushing to a fixed slot. We will give you a realistic time for your car when you book.

Both. An automatic only needs the second brake pedal, because there is no clutch to duplicate. A manual gets both a brake and a clutch. Several of our customers drive automatics and it makes no difference to how straightforward the job is.
